Just under $100 million is now being spent by the National Works Agency (NWA) to patch several corridors in St. Catherine, Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Thomas. The programme started last week and is slated to target just under 36,000 square meters of road.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that 16 corridors in St. Catherine will benefit under this round of patching. Just over $18 million is being spent on these roads. Among them are the stretch from Spanish Town to Bamboo, Church Road to Knollis, Bamboo to Worthy Park and Vanity Fair to Bermady.

In rural St. Andrew, the roads from Stony Hill to Parks Road, Nolan Hill to Border, Guava Ridge to Mahagony Vale and Woodford to Norbrook are among those that will be patched. Elsewhere in Kingston and St. Andrew, the NWA will be undertaking work on Arnold Road, Constant Spring Road, Conway Drive, Patrick Drive, Windward Road, Papine Square, Langston Road and Gordon Town Road. More than 60 roads are to be patched in these two parishes.

Mr. Shaw says just under $60 million dollars is being spent on roads in the parishes of St. Andrew and Kingston.

In the meantime, just under $14 million is being spent in St. Thomas to improve the condition along seven main roads.

The roads being targeted are Morant Bay to Port Morant, Port Morant to Pleasant Hill, Pleasant Hill to Hectors River, Church Corner to Morant River Bridge, Bull Bay to Grants Pen, Grants Pen to Pamphret, Pamphret to Morant Bay and Morant River Bridge to Trinityville.

Mr. Shaw says that the NWA intends to have the programme of works completed in another three weeks, however, this is subject to the parishes experiencing favourable weather conditions. Patching activities are usually suspended where there is heavy rainfall. This sometimes lead to sections of roads that have been prepared for patching not being completed on schedule.
