The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced rehabilitation work along Dawkins Drive in Portmore, St. Catherine. The corridor which is at the centre of some of Portmore’s more popular businesses will be under construction for the next 90 days.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that among the scope of the works are the construction of sidewalks, the re-establishing of bus bays and the removal of the worn asphalt surface. A new Asphaltic Concrete surface will be laid.

Mr. Shaw says based on the high pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area, much of the activities will be undertaken at nights and on weekends. The construction of the sidewalks is now underway. Starting next weekend, activities will be conducted at nights. This includes the replacement of the old asphalt surface.

While the work is being programmed to minimize disruptions to the public, motorists are being advised to exercise caution when using the Dawkins Drive over the next few weeks. They are being urged to pay particular attention to the posted signs and instructions of the flag-persons.

Mr. Shaw says approximately 28 million dollars is being spent on the rehabilitation effort.
