Motorists should excercise caution when using Howard Cooke Bridge in St. James

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to exercise due caution when using the Howard Cooke Bridge, located near  the Dump Up Beach in St. James.

Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, explains that the expansion joints along a section of the bridge have been compromised, and is now in need of repair. She says that the Agency will, in short order, commence the works necessary to correct the problem and this will necessitate the closure of the affected section of the roadway.

Ms Ricketts says that the NWA is currently finalizing the contractural arrangements for undertaking the project, as well as finalizing a traffic management plan to mitigate any congestion that may arise from the closure.

Until repairs are effected, motorists who must use the bridge should take due care when doing so or they should use alternate routes, where possible.
