The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that rehabilitation works have restarted along the Gloucester Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, also referred to as the ‘Hip Strip’, in Montego Bay St. James.

The project which originally got underway in September 2011 is being executed by local contractor, Surrey Paving and Aggregates Ltd. The project involves the removal of worn asphalt and the paving of the roadway with Asphaltic Concrete. This project also involves the construction of drains and the construction and repair of sidewalks.

This project will complement earlier works to rehabilitate the roadway in the vicinity of the Sangster’s International Airport which was completed in September 2011.

To date significant ground has been covered as work on the Sunset Boulevard has been completed, and work now continues on Gloucester Avenue.

In order to minimize disruptions to the flow of traffic, the concrete works are being executed during the daytime, while other works will be undertaken between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Motorists are being asked to obey the posted warning signs.
