NWA Advises caution in Eastern Parishes

The National Works Agency (NWA) has moblised teams in the parishes of Portland, St. Andrew and St. Thomas as heavy rains continue to impact these parishes. The rains have left corridors impassable, while others are being affected by flooding, siltation and minor landslides.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the road from Gordon Town to Penfield in St. Andrew is now blocked as is the corridor from Bethel to Richmond Gap in St. Thomas. The road from Alligator Church to Bellevue in Portland is also blocked and badly scoured.

Other corridors that have been impacted by the inclement weather include the stretch from Papine to Redlight in St. Andrew, the Wakefield to Hardwar Gap in Portland and the Serge Island to Trinityville corridor in St. Thomas.

Mr. Shaw is advising persons using corridors in sections of the three parishes of St. Andrew, St. Thomas and Portland to exercise extreme caution as some sections are susceptible to landslides. He says some flooding has been reported in St. Thomas and that road users should also exercise caution in using flooded corridors.
