The National Works Agency (NWA) has embarked on a major programme of work in the northeastern parishes of Portland, St. Mary and St. Ann geared at improving the safety of road users. Under the programme some 2,500 metres of Guard-rails are being installed or replaced.

Community Relations Officer at the NWA, Natalee Bloomfield - Rowe, says that under the programme, which is being financed through an agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), just under 10-million dollars is being spent to undertake the works.

Corridors that will be impacted by the project include Brown’s Town to Alexandria and Green Park to St. Ann’s Bay in St. Ann; Agualta Vale to Martins and Oracabessa to White River, in the vicinity of the Boscobel Primary School in St. Mary; and Balcarres to Wakefield, Fellowship to Berridale and Seaman’s Valley to Millbank in Portland.

Miss Bloomfield - Rowe says that the programme which commenced earlier this month will be completed by the end of February.
