NWA mobilises teams to respond to multiple blockages in the Junction

The National Works Agency (NWA) has moblised teams to respond to incidences of land slippages along the Junction Road in St. Andrew and St. Mary. The road was night rendered impassable at Brandon Hill in St. Andrew, resulting from a massive landslide. A work crew, however, had it reopened to single lane.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the landslides were also affecting the corridor in the communities of Devon Pen and Friendship Gap in St. Mary. The road was last night reduced to single lane in both communities.

Mr. Shaw is urging persons travelling through the Junction at this time to exercise extreme caution, especially in the area referred to as “Money Corner.” Continuous rainfall over the last week has made the embankments unstable. There is therefore a risk of rocks falling onto the roadway or further land-slippages.
