Work to rehabilitate Cornwall Street in Falmouth, Trelawny is expected to be completed by the end of March. The project which is being jointly funded by the National Works Agency (NWA) and the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is being rehabilitated at a cost of 78 million dollars.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says the project is in its final stages and that when completed it will complement the operations of the Cruise ship terminal in the town, as well as provide for easier access to critical services by the police and the Falmouth Hospital.

Miss Ricketts says that this project involves extensive drainage improvement, the construction of sidewalks and the reshaping and asphalting of the 1.2 km stretch of roadway.

In the meantime, the NWA has a commenced a $12 million dollar works programme elsewhere in the parish, geared at arresting the deterioration of several road sections. Among the corridors that are being targeted are the Rock to Stewart Town main road; the stretch of roadway between Hampden and Wakefield; and sections of the Wakefield to Friendship roadway. This project follows an earlier effort, valued at 9.2 million dollars to patch and locally rehabilitate sections of the Falmouth to Springvale project, also in the parish of Trelawny.
