The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that Red Hills Road, in the vicinity of the Washington Boulevard /Dunrobin Ave / Red Hills Road Interchange will be closed to all forms of traffic this weekend. The corridor will be closed, starting at 6:00 on Saturday morning and will reopen at 6:00 o’clock Monday morning.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the closure is to facilitate the launching of steel Girders, as part of the construction of a new bridge. The new bridge forms part of the US23-million dollar Washington Boulevard Improvement Project.

Mr. Shaw says that it is expected that all the girders will be in place by Monday morning, which will then see the roadway being re-opened. He says however, that Red Hills Road in the vicinity of the Interchange will be closed at nights, effective Monday, January 17, between the hours of 8:00 pm and 6:00 am. The nightly closure will last for two weeks, and is expected to reopen on a 24 hour basis on January 31. The nightly closures will be to facilitate work on the bridge’s deck.

Mr. Shaw is advising that detour routes during the periods of the closure for traffic travelling south bound, along Red Hills Road will be Elizabeth Avenue, West Avenue, Lindsay Crescent,   Dunrobin Avenue, and back to Red Hills Road, via the South- east Ramp at the Red Hills Road/Dunrobin Avenue Interchange. The reverse obtains for north bound traffic along Red Hills Road, except for the use of the South-west ramp, instead of the South east.

Affected persons are being asked to obey all posted warning signs and flag persons, deployed along the route.
