Road Closure Notice for Negril Main Road

Effective tomorrow Friday, January 29, 2016, a section of the Negril main road, in Westmoreland will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic. The closure will affect the section of the corridor in the vicinity of its intersection with the Red Ground roadway, and will extend from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Community Relations Officer for the National Works Agency, Western Region Janel Ricketts, says that the roadway is being closed to facilitate pipe laying activities associated with the multimillion dollar rehabilitation project which is now underway along the Negril to Sheffield roadway.

Ms. Ricketts says that as a result of this closure, motorists travelling from Negril, towards Sheffield, are being advised to use the Red Ground and Whitehall roadways. The reverse would obtain for motorists travelling from the opposite direction.

The Sheffield to Negril roadway is being rehabilitated at a cost of approximately $255 million, through funding made available from the Tourism Enhancement Fund.

Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signals and instructions of flag persons.
