The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists and pedestrians that the closure of the Dump to Moravia roadway, in the vicinity of Silent Hill in Manchester, has been extended to the end of May. This is to facilitate the continuation of road rehabilitation works that have been underway since March.

Community Relations Officer of the NWA, Howard Hendriks, says that the roadway had been rendered impassable by a breakaway last year and was subsequently closed to facilitate its rehabilitation. Rehabilitative works will include the construction of a rubble stone wall, drainage improvement and the reinstatement of the roadway with Asphaltic Concrete.

The works, which are being funded by the Road Maintenance Fund (RMF) at a cost of $12.5 million, are just over 50 percent completed.

Motorists who need to access Top Silent Hill should travel from Dump to Top Silent Hill. Motorists who need to access Bottom Silent Hill are advised to travel from Christiana, in the vicinity of the NCB Bank, to Moravia to Bottom Silent Hill. There will be no direct access from Dump to Moravia to Christiana during this closure.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to obey the instructions of flagmen and the warning signs that have been posted at both approaches to the construction site. Persons are being particularly warned not attempt to use the unfinished roadway, as it is extremely unsafe to do so.
