The National Works Agency (NWA) is currently spending over $2.5 million to employ fifty (50) young people from various high schools as well as tertiary level institutions islandwide in its inaugural Summer Employment Programme.

The programme commenced on June 25, 2012. Each student will work with the NWA for at least six weeks and have been placed in different work areas of the Agency, such as Administration, Technical Services, Information Technology or other areas in line with their course of study.

Prior to being placed, the students participated in an orientation programme. This provided valuable information about the organizations operations, introduced them to work place values and expectations. This included dress and decorum, office etiquette and other benefits to be derived from the programme.

The NWA Summer Employment Programme provides these students with an opportunity to work in an area that corresponds to their field of specialization or aligned to their personal goals. The experiences gained from this programme should assist them  in becoming role models for their peers and prepare them for the world of work.

In a closing exercise, Chief Executive Officer of the National Works Agency, Mr. E.G. Hunter addressed the participants. He encouraged them to continue their education and use the experience gained to make worthwhile contributions to their sphere of activities, now and in the future.
