The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that work will resume on the King Street to Green Pond roadway in St. James, this Wednesday, August 22, 2012. This multi-million dollar project is being executed by contractors, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) under the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP).

Minister of State, in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, Honourable Richard Azan, facilitated a meeting earlier today with the main contractors, the sub-contractor and the National Works Agency. This led to a decision to have work on the project resume tomorrow.

This project is being completed at a cost of $147 million. It involves the complete rehabilitation of 4.8 kilometres of roadway, including drainage improvement, construction of kerbs and channels and the replacement of culverts.

The Green Pond main road is the primary access route for residents who reside in the community of Cornwall Courts, the largest housing development in western Jamaica.

Minister Azan apologises for the delays and the inconvenience to residents and motorists, particularly the dust nuisance and has given a commitment to have the project completed within three months.
The Minister says that the sub-contractor on this project, YP Seaton and Associates has given an assurance that the project will be completed by then.
