Come next week, the National Works Agency (NWA) will ramp up activities in rehabilitating the main road from Jackson Town to Ulster Spring in Southern Trelawny. The road is being rehabilitated through a contract valued at $166 million.
Community Relations Officer at the NWA Janel Ricketts says that over the course of the next two weeks, starting this Sunday, May 28, 2023, motorists traversing the section of the corridor between Jackson Town and Blagrove Drive may experience some delays. These delays may be experienced between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm daily, when sections of the corridor will be reduced to single-lane traffic. The single-lane usage is to facilitate the installation of stormwater culverts.
Ms. Ricketts says that under the project, the main works will primarily be concentrated between the Jackson Town and Sawyers communities. The activities will focus on drainage improvement, the construction of parapet walls, and the reshaping and asphalting of the worst affected sections of the roadway.
Additionally, the project will see the construction of a retaining wall, in the vicinity of the Ulster Spring Primary School, where a section of the roadway has been undermined.
The project, which commenced in mid-May 2023, is expected to be completed within seven months.
