The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that the Ballard’s River main road in northern Clarendon is now impassable. The entire section of roadway collapsed late yesterday afternoon, when a loaded truck, transporting cement, passed an area along the road, where a major breakaway occurred last year during the passage of Hurricane Dean.

Ballard’s River is located along the Danks to Mears Bridge Control Section, approximately 3 kilometres from Crooked River and 5 kilometres after leaving the town of Pennants.

The alternative routes for motorists traveling from Crooked River or Frankfield towards May Pen is, Kellits, Colonel Ridge then onto Pennants. Motorists traveling towards May Pen from Frankfield can also travel via Thompson Town to Four Paths then onto May Pen or Thompson Town to Summerfield onto May Pen.

Officers are now at the location of the collapsed roadway working to construct a detour, which should be completed by tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, the National Works Agency is advising motorists and pedestrians to be guided by posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
