Bog Walk Bridge closed

Effective Wednesday, October 10, 2007, the Bog Walk Bailey Bridge in St. Catherine will be closed to vehicular traffic. The bridge is being closed by the National Works Agency to facilitate the construction of a new structure.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA,Stephen Shaw, says while pedestrians will be allowed to access the Bailey Bridge in the first phase of the construction works, motorists are being asked to use Church Road as the alternative route. He says this alternative arrangement for motorists is expected to be in place for the next six months when the new J$100-million, two-lane bridge is expected to be completed.

In the meantime, Mr. Shaw says the situation which presently exists where taxi operators use the old bridge in Bog Walk as a terminus can no longer be accommodated, as construction of the new bridge will be done on the alignment of the old bridge.
