Closure of Alley Bridge, Clarendon

Effective this Sunday, January 6, 2008, the National Works Agency will be closing the Alley Bridge, in Alley, Clarendon. This bridge is being closed to facilitate the reconstruction of the Northern approach road leading from Lionel Town. The bridge is expected to be re-opened on Saturday January 12, 2008.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says reconstruction of northbound approach to the bridge became necessary as a result of extensive scouring of the road surface during the 40-day rainfall of October and November last year.

Motorists travelling from Alley are being asked to use the alternative route through Lionel Town via Hayes into May Pen. From Waterlane, motorists are being asked to go through Race Course to Kemps Hill, through York Town and into May Pen.

Mr. Shaw says the Agency will be using a Portland Cement layer on the road surface instead of the usual Asphaltic Concrete. The cement concrete layer he says requires a longer time to cure than Asphaltic Concrete. Works are therefore expected to last for six days, completing on Friday, January 11, 2008. He emphasized however that the road will not be re-opened until Saturday, January 12.

This project is being done at a cost of 4-million dollars, by C & T Construction and Architecture Company Limited.
