Heavy Rainfall Causes Inundation of Roads in some Parishes

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that persistent rainfall across the island during the past 72 hours has caused inundation of roadways in some parishes.

In St. Elizabeth, the Pedro Cross to Lititz main road which was flooded at Junction and at Southfield in the vicinity of Powell Town has been cleared. Vehicles can now travel along the roadway; however motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

Over in Clarendon, the Free Town to Four Path’s main road in the vicinity of Palmer’s Cross is inundated. Motorists should proceed with caution along this roadway.

Meanwhile in Portland, scouring of the Hope Bay to Chips Hall main road has occurred. Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution along this roadway.
The Halls Head to Belvedere main road in western St. Thomas which was made impassable by wash-down silt and debris has been cleared by NWA contractors. The Serge Island Loop Road also in western St. Thomas, is inundated and motorists should exercise due care on this roadway.

In St. Andrew, minor land slippages have occurred along the Guava Ridge to Silver Hill Gap main road.

The National Works Agency is advising motorists who use these roadways to proceed with care as the roads are slippery, obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
