The National Works Agency (NWA) is announcing that the section of the Howard Cooke Boulevard in Montego Bay, in St. James, that was recently closed to facilitate repairs to a defective bridge, has now been reopened.

During the period of closure, motorists traveling along the Howard Cooke Boulevard, towards the direction of the Sangster’s International Airport were rerouted to Harbour Street.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that the road has been reopened 4 weeks ahead of schedule, following its closure on August 21, 2022.

Ms. Ricketts says that based on the importance of the roadway to the flow of traffic in the city centre of Montego Bay, the NWA, through its contractor, worked diligently to have the corridor reopened ahead of the start of the September school term.

The project involved the removal and replacement of the defective expansion joints and the demolition and reconstruction of the concrete abutment to the bridge, using high-strength, fibre-reinforced, fast-curing concrete. Additionally, the approach to the bridge was resurfaced using Asphaltic Concrete Overlay
