The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists using the intersection of Mahoe Drive and Hagley Park Road in Kingston to exercise caution, as the traffic signals in the area are inoperable. This, as thieves have removed the Control Box containing the electronic devices that facilitate the proper functioning of the lights.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the agency this morning discovered that the box was stolen, following complaints from motorists in the area that the lights were non functional.

He says the matter has been reported to the police for an investigation. The removal of the Control Box from the intersection of Mahoe Drive and Hagley Park Road is the second incident of this nature in the last six months.

Last year, thieves also removed the entire Control Box from the intersection of Ardenne Road and Hope Road in St. Andrew. The NWA had to replace the box at a cost of 200 thousand dollars.

Mr. Shaw says it will cost the Agency a similar amount to replace the Box that has been removed from the Mahoe Drive/Hagley Park Road intersection.

In the meantime, he is advising members of the public who may have information as to the whereabouts of the stolen Control Box to contact the nearest police station.
