Major corridors affected by inclement weather

Flooding

Several roadways in six parishes have been affected by heavy rains now being experienced across the island. Roadways in the parishes of St. Catherine, Clarendon, St. Elizabeth, St. James, St. Thomas and St. Andrew have been impacted by flooding, debris and blocked drains.

In Clarendon, the main road from Rest to Milk River remains impassable, resulting from flood waters. The corridors from Kupius to Colonel’s Ridge and Colonel’s Ridge to Kellets have been reduced to single lane access, caused by landslides. Flooding has also been reported in Portland Cottage, as well as, along the roadways from Toll Gate to St. Jago; Parnasus to Race Course and Alley to Rest.

In St. Catherine, White Church Street in Spanish Town is now impassable, due to flooding, while caution is being advised driving through the Bog walk Gorge. Loose rocks are falling along this corridor. In St. Elizabeth, the main road from Emaus to Nain is now inundated. Operators of small vehicles are being advised not to attempt to use this corridor, sections of which have also been badly scoured. Extreme caution is also being advised along the roadway from Gutters to Tomb Stone, as sections of this roadway are flooded.

Over in St. Thomas, the corridor from Morant Crossing to White Hall is being affected by flood waters in the community of Middleton. The roadways from Bull Bay to Grants Pen and Morant Bay to Port Morant are being affected by washed down silt.

In St. Andrew, flooding has been reported in the communities of New Haven, Cooreville Gardens and Patrick City, while in St. James, a section of the North Gully breached its banks and in the process flooded a section of the Green Pond main road. Flooding was also reported along the Barnett to Adelphi main road.
