The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to exercise caution when using sections of the roadway from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay to Greenside in Trelawny. This, as major repair works are now underway along the corridor.

The 27 kilometer stretch of roadway formed Segment 2A of the North-coast Highway Improvement Project, which was constructed by Danish firm, E. Pihl and Sons Limited.

Sections of the corridor have failed and as per the contract between the government and the company, the defects are now being remedied. Works are expected to continue until the end of this month.

Currently, the contractor has excavated a section of the roadway in the vicinity of the Palmyra Resort in St. James and is working to complete this section before moving on to other points along the corridor.

Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of flag persons.

Segment 2A of the Northern Coastal Highway Improvement Project was completed in 2008. The project involved the widening and realignment of the 27 km stretch. Thirteen of which was dualised. The roadway is equipped with numerous bus bays, junctions, improved drainage structures, traffic lights and other safety features.
