Milford Road in Ocho Rios, closed to vehicular traffic

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists thatMilford Road in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, in the vicinity of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, has been closed to vehicular traffic. The roadway will be closed for six (6) weeks to facilitate the construction of a double cell reinforced concrete box culvert, under the roadway, and is scheduled to be completed by May 30, 2009.

Construction of this culvert is expected to cost just under 19 million dollars.

The alternative route for motorists travelling from the direction of Fern Gully towards Ocho Rios is, Storment Road, Mansfield Way, Ferngrove Road ontoMilford Road. The reverse obtains for motorists traveling from Ocho Rios in the direction of Fern Gully.

The project now underway at Milford Road is a component of the National Works Agency’s plans to rehabilitate the 10 kilometre long Fern Gully main road. During the next phase of this project, which is scheduled to begin shortly, 3.6 kilometres of the roadway will be overlaid at a cost $125 million.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when using this corridor and obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs.
