Minister of State, Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing to Attend Road Safety Conference in Argentina

Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport, Works & Housing (MTWH) Hon. Richard Azan will attend the 3rd Road Safety Forum, (RSF) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He will be accompanied by Canute Hare, Director of the Road Safety Unit, Ministry of Transport, Works & Housing and Mrs. Paula Fletcher, Executive Director, National Road Safety Council.

The Road Safety Forum responds to the United Nations mandate to promote regional collaboration for controlling the rapidly growing epidemic of road traffic injuries.

Mr. Azan and members of his team will meet with the Minister of Transport, Argentina, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and World Health Organization (WHO) officials during the three day forum. This meeting is aimed at highlighting Jamaica’s road safety progress and seeks the necessary technical assistance to ensure that by 2020, Jamaica becomes the road safety capital of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Highlights of this Forum include a look at the Latin America and Caribbean region’s progress with respect to the decade of action for road safety. The attendees will also be confirmed as signatories to the Latin American and Caribbean Road Safety Charter. Minister Azan and the other members of the delegation return to Jamaica on May 11, 2013.
