The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that effective tomorrow Saturday, May 9, 2009, minor delays should be expected in using the Bogue road in Montego Bay, St. James. These delays may be experienced between the hours of 7:00 am on Saturday May 9, and 4:00 am on Monday May 11, 2009.

According to the NWA, local contractors Surrey Paving and Aggregates Limited will be carrying out works to widen a section of the roadway between the intersection of the Alice Eldemire and the Bogue main road, and the roadway in the vicinity of the National Water Commission’s Divisional Headquarters in Bogue St. James.

The roadway which is a major entrance point to the city of Montego Bay has been the source of traffic delays during the morning and evening peak hours. The government is spending approximately one point four billion Jamaican dollars (J$1.4 billion) to upgrade the existing two lane carriageway to accommodate four lanes of traffic. The project area will be between the Reading and the Fairfield intersections in St. James. This project also entails the rehabilitation of one point three kilometers (1.3 km) of the two lane roadway along the Fairfield main road in St. James. Additionally, the project involves the repair to the approaches and the surfaces of six bridges between the towns of Lucea and Green Island in Hanover.

The NWA says that the contractors have given the commitment that they will work to minimize the delays to the public during the construction period. The necessary traffic management system which involves adequate signage, lighting and flagmen will be in place for the duration of the project.

Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of flag persons.
