The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced a multi-million dollar project to rehabilitate the main road from Folly to Hector’s River in Portland. The corridor which is the main road linking Port Antonio to St. Thomas will undergo repairs valued at 40 million dollars. Sections of the corridor have been in a state of disrepair and in need of major rehabilitation.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s North-eastern region, Natalee Rowe says as part of the project, one point three kilometers of the corridor will be reconstructed, while approximately 8,500 square metres will be patched. These works are to be completed within three months.

The rehabilitative work comes on the heels of works commencing in the Rio Grande Valley. A contract valued at 200 million dollars is now being executed for the construction of three retaining walls, including that in the community of Friday. The contract which has been awarded to contractor N.F. Barnes and Associates is expected to be completed within six months.

In the meantime, the NWA is also undertaking patching activities on the corridors from Spring Garden to Chepstowe and Hospital Road. Just over 14 hundred square meters of patching is being undertaken on these roadways at a cost of one million dollars. The work is expected to be completed by early October.
