A $19 million drainage improvement and road rehabilitation project is now underway along a section of the Irie Road in Norwood, St. James. The project is being undertaken by the National Works Agency (NWA), through the Maintenance of Secondary Roads programme.

Community Relations Officer of the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says the project, which commenced on February 18, 2019, involves the complete rehabilitation of 450 metres of roadway to include drainage improvement and the reshaping and asphalting of the roadway using Asphaltic Concrete Overlay.

Ms Ricketts says that work is now being focused on improving the drainage systems along the roadway. A new base layer is also being laid which will facilitate the new surface.

In the meantime, the NWA has completed major works to repair Middle Street, also located in Norwood St. James. This project involved the construction of new drainage systems, as well as the reshaping and asphalting of the roadway using Asphaltic Concrete Overlay.
