Following the delay in the implementation of traffic changes in Lucea, Hanover this week, the NWA will on Monday August 25 introduce the new traffic arrangements.

The NWA had planned to introduce these traffic changes this week, in a bid to reduce the growing problem of congestion in the town of Lucea. The plans, however, were pushed back to facilitate further consultation and the placement of additional directional signs.

On August 25, the section of Millers Drive up to its intersection with Malcolm Heights will be converted to one way traveling in a south westerly direction. The section of Millers Drive leading to Bigwell Lane will become one-way traveling in a north easterly direction. Malcolm Heights from its intersection with Millers Drive up to its intersection with Moseley Drive will become a one way corridor traveling north. Moseley Drive leading to its intersection with Main Street will be converted to one-way traveling in a north-easterly direction. Crissy’s Lane will become a one- way corridor travelling in a north easterly direction.

Main Street is located in the heart of the Lucea business district and is also a major link to the neighbouring towns of Green Island, Hanover and Negril, Westmoreland. Motorists have been experiencing delays along this roadway for some time, especially during the morning and afternoon peak hours. This is due to the corridor’s inability to accommodate the volume of vehicular traffic at these times.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts says the traffic changes being introduced are expected to effectively reduce the level of congestion in the town. She says the changes will complement the parking restrictions that were already in place.

Miss Ricketts says that the NWA and members of the Hanover Parish Council recently met with key stakeholders in Lucea and its environs to apprise them of the upcoming changes.
