The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution on the Seaman’s Valley to Millbank main road in the Rio Grande Valley, Portland. A breakaway in the community of Kent has rendered the roadway impassable.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the rock formation under the road has disintegrated and has warned motorists not to attempt to use this section of roadway.

He says that a retaining wall is currently being constructed at the location, however it will take at least one month for access to be restored.

The roadway from Seaman’s Valley to Millbank has been fraught with challenges and is currently undergoing reconstruction in sections valued at nearly 250 million dollars. The projects include the replacement of the Alligator Church Bridge and the construction of a retaining wall in the community of Friday.

In the meantime, Mr. Shaw is reminding motorists to exercise caution along sections of Segment Three of the North Coast Highway, as minor works still continue. These works include the construction of a box culvert at Rosend in St. Mary and the construction of retaining walls in the Portland communities of Black Hill, Snow Hill and Norwich.

Motorists are being asked to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs.
