NWA advises caution at intersections in St. Andrew

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution in using three intersections in the corporate area, as traffic signals that facilitate safe movement are non-functional.

The traffic lights at the intersections of Hope Road/Old Hope Road and Barbican Road, Barbados Avenue and Knutsford Boulevard and Grenada Avenue and Knutsford Boulevard are all out of service.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that critical components and wires for the functioning of the systems have been damaged by lightening, during the recent heavy rains.

Mr. Shaw says the NWA does not have the materials in stock and is now sourcing the needed parts from overseas. In addition, sections of the intersections will have to be excavated in order to resolve the problems.

Motorists are being advised that intersections are to be treated as four way stops or as if a stop sign was located at that location.
