The NWA Announces the Closure of the Cox Street Bridge in St. Mary
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that the Cox Street Bridge in Port Maria, St. Mary, is closed with immediate effect
The Agency says that the bridge has been closed due to structural damage, which has rendered the structure unsafe for motorists. This follows persistent rainfall that has been impacting sections of the island, since the passing of Tropical Storm Raphael. The NWA’s technical team is now conducting the necessary damage assessment, with a view to having the situation remedied in short order.
During the period of closure, motorists travelling from the Annotto Bay direction, towards Cox Street, may travel via Stennett Street, before making a left turn on to Cox Street (in the vicinity of Courts Jamaica Limited).
Motorists travelling from the Oracabessa direction towards Cox Street, may travel via Stennett Street, before making a right turn, on to Cox Street (in the vicinity of the St. Mary Municipal Corporation building).
Motorists are being urged to obey the posted warning signs as failure to do so may have dire consequences to life and property.
