The National Works Agency has begun a $35 million road rehabilitation project along the Treasure Beach to Round Hill main road in southern St. Elizabeth last Tuesday, March 5, 2007. The contract to repair this four-kilometre long roadway has been awarded to Construction Solutions Limited and is expected to be completed within six months.

Community Relations Officer for the National Works Agency’s Central Region, Howard Hendricks says the road repairs include site clearance, base work, construction of drainage structures and surfacing of the roadway with Double Surface Dressing.

He says that work on this project started in the vicinity of the Pedro Plains Police Station in order to facilitate two other projects, the resumption of construction works on the Treasure Beach culvert and canal and the continuation of rehabilitation of the Great Bay main road. The Round Hill and Treasure Beach communities were severely affected by flooding in 2005 during the passage of Hurricanes Emily and Wilma.

Motorists and other persons using this roadway are advised to proceed with caution and observe the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs while work is in progress.
