The National Works Agency is now clearing several blocked roads in eastern and western Portland caused by heavy rainfall in the parish during the last 72 hours.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency Stephen Shaw says the main road between Windsor and Moore Town in eastern Portland has been reopened to single lane usage, while the flood waters covering the Seaman’s Valley main road have receded and this roadway is now passable.

Mr. Shaw says the Agency has mobilized its Routine Maintenance Contractors who are now working in the Upper Rio Grande Valley to clear and reopen blocked roads and remove fallen trees, boulders and debris from the affected roadways.

In western Portland the Tranquility to Bangor Ridge main road which was blocked has been partially cleared and is now open to single lane. There are numerous landslides along the Balcarres to Wakefield main road which is also open to single lane. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution along this roadway as the road is slippery.

There is heavy wash down silt along the Orange Bay to Windsor Castle main road in the Buff Bay area in the vicinity of the Inland Revenue Office. The roadway is however opened to single lane and total clearance is expected later this evening.

Every effort is being made by the NWA to have all roads cleared as soon as possible.
