NWA clears Roadways in Western Jamaica

The National Works Agency has reopened roadways in Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James and St. Elizabeth that were blocked or reduced to single lane access during heavy rainfall which affected these parishes over the past 72 hours.

In Westmoreland the Pisgah to Seaford Town main road which was reduced to single lane has been cleared by contractors. While in St. James there are still landslips along the Guilsbro to Kensington main road and single lane access in sections. The Flankers main road in the vicinity of the Island Traffic Authority, which was covered with wash-down silt has been cleared.

The Point to Flamstead Gardens main road in the vicinity of the Tangle River district in Southern St. James is still closed. Contractors are working to have this roadway reopened by Sunday, May 24.

In Hanover, clearing of landslips by contractors and NWA Teams has been affected by persistent rainfall. As soon as the weather permits, this activity will resume. The affected roadways have been reduced to single lane usage and include, Riley to Glasgow via Dias, Riley to Bush Mouth, Kings Vale to Prospect, Flint River to Cascade, Cash Hill to Dundee and Cascade to Jericho.

The Ginger Hill to Pisgah as well as the Lacovia to Mountain Side and the Lacovia Old Road to Old Bridge main roads in St. Elizabeth have been cleared. The Lilliput to Lookout main road, just outside of Balaclava, remains blocked by a boulder. Workmen are presently working to have this section of the roadway cleared.

In the meanwhile the NWA is advising that the Mocho to Springfield and the Red Gate to Wash Foot Gully remain open to single lane access only.
