The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that on August 10, 2025, the Westbound carriageway of the Howard Cooke Bridge, in the vicinity of the KFC restaurant, will be closed to vehicular traffic. This section of the roadway will be closed between the hours of 3:00am and 8:00 pm.

The Agency is currently undertaking works to underpin the abutment wall of the bridge, as part of efforts to reinforce the bridge substructure and repair a section of the sidewalk, adjacent to the bridge.  Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that the bridge remains structurally sound, however the works form part of necessary maintenance works.

Ms. Ricketts says that this closure will only affect road users who are exiting the city centre, by way of Howard Cooke Boulevard. The Eastbound leg of the bridge will remain open.

During the period of closure, motorists may the travel via St. James Street and Barnett Street, before exiting onto Howard Cooke Boulevard, in the vicinity of the Fire Station.

Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of flag persons.
