NWA closes road, another bridge vandalised

The National Works Agency (NWA) has closed the main road from CedarValley to Trinityville in St. Thomas. The closure takes immediate effect.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the roadway is being closed between Mile Posts 30 and 31, in the community of New Monkland. The road has been closed, due to the worsening condition of a breakaway in the community.

Mr. Shaw says traffic will be rerouted through a private poverty onto parochial road number 185, which is called Bridle Road.  He says road closure signs have been erected along the roadway and is appealing to motorists not to attempt to use this corridor.

In the meantime, the NWA is advising motorists using the main road from Mandeville to Rudds Corner in Manchester to be careful in using the bridge in the community of Knockpatrick. Thieves last night made off with 45 meters of the bridge rails. Mr. Shaw explains that all the rails on one side of the bridge have been removed, and 50 per cent of the other was also stolen. In recent months, the NWA has lost bridge rails in the parishes of St. Andrew, St. Catherine and Clarendon. The rails are valued at thousands of dollars.
