The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that it will today be deactivating several traffic signals in Kingston and St. Andrew.

Traffic signals at eight intersections are being turned off and poles secured in order to reduce the likelihood of the systems being damaged by strong wind and rain associated with the passage of Tropical Storm Tomas.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the traffic lights at the intersection of Lyndhurst Road\Beechwood Avenue, Lyndhurst Road\Retirement Avenue, Slipe Road\Torrington Bridge, Hope Road\Winchester Avenue, Old Hope Road\Lady Musgrave Road, Mountain View Avenue\Authur Wint Drive, Lady Musgrave Road\Fair Way Avenue and Lady Musgrave Road\Seaview Avenue will be deactivated.

Mr. Shaw advises that motorists using these intersections proceed with extreme caution and use the roadways as if the areas were equipped with stop signs.

He says the NWA will put the systems back into service, as soon as the Agency receives clearance that the weather system is no longer a threat to the country.
