The National Works Agency (NWA) is now preparing to implement a new multi-million dollar hotmix patching programme in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Thomas and St. Catherine. The programme, valued at just under $200 million dollars, represents the second phase of a recurrent programme aimed at the maintenance of secondary roads.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that this programme will complement a patching programme valued at a $239 million that was rolled out in the other ten parishes last month. He says that another spray patching programme valued at $123 million will also be implemented in nine parishes in coming weeks.
Under the current programme over 122 thousand square metres roadways will be targeted in the four parishes. Some 74 corridors are slated to benefit. Roadways that will be targeted include Half Way Tree Road, Millsborough Avenue and Spanish Town Road in the Corporate Area; Rock Hall to Parks Road and St. Christopher to Glengoffe in St. Andrew; Old Harbour to Old Harbour Bay, Municipal Boulevard and the streets of Spanish Town in St. Catherine; Yallahs to Easington and Negro River Bridge to Hall Head in St. Thomas.
Preparatory works are now underway and motorists are being advised to obey posted warning signs and the instruction of flag persons.
