NWA to Introduce Major Traffic Changes in Cross Roads, St. Andrew

The National Works Agency (NWA) will be introducing major traffic changes in the Cross Roads area of St. Andrew within the next six weeks. These changes include, replacing traffic signal equipment with Mast Arms, the addition of pedestrian signals, the removal of the Taxi Stand and Bus Stop by the Post Office and the reversal of the one-way along Marescaux Crescent

The changes have become necessary because of ageing Traffic Signals, excessive interruptions to traffic flow by pedestrians and vehicles entering and exiting business enterprises as well as the congestion caused by taxi and bus operators who use the area by the Post Office as an informal bus bay/ taxi stand.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that work to facilitate the changes will begin by the end of February.

Mr. Shaw says that on completion of the project, the right turns out of Silver Slipper Plaza and HiLo would be prohibited.

According to Mr. Shaw, there would be improved pedestrian safety, reduced congestion and improved traffic flow through Cross Roads when this project is completed.
