The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that effective this Saturday, December 11, 2010, a section of the Mannings Hill Road in St. Andrew, extending from Mary Brown’s Corner to Old Gate Drive, will be reduced to single lane traffic. This is being done to facilitate patching activities along that section of the roadway.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says the single lane system to be established along Mannings Hill Road this weekend, will be in effect for a period of three (3) days, as follows:-

  • Saturday, December 11:         from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 12:            from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, December 13:          form 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Mr. Shaw says the patching exercise to be carried out on Mannings Hill Road forms part of the Jamaica Infrastructure Programme (JDIP), a new works programme recently implemented by National Works Agency and currently underway in a number of parishes across the island. JDIP is geared towards major road improvement island-wide.

The National Works Agency is advising motorists to proceed with caution while travelling along Mannings Hill Road this weekend, and to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs while works are in progress.

Meanwhile, the National Works Agency is also advising motorists that King Street in Linstead, St. Catherine, will be closed on Sunday December 12, 2010, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 pm.

Communications Manager, Stephen Shaw, says this one-day closure of King Street in Linstead is being done to facilitate emergency works involving excavation across both lanes of the roadway for the installation of a drainage pipe.

The alternative Routes to King Street are:-

  1. Forth Street to Royal Avenue
  2. St. Georges Street; or
  3. Grove Road.

Motorists are being asked to obey the instructions of the Police and posted warning signs.
