Impassable Roadway

The National Works Agency is advising that access has been restored to several roadways which were this morning blocked by landslides, fallen trees and inundation caused by heavy rainfall over the past three days.

Full vehicular access has been restored toSkyline Drive and the roadway from Maryland to Woodford, in St. Andrew. The Flint River to Cascade main road in Hanover, which was blocked by landslides is now passable. In St. Thomas, single lane access has been restored to the main roads from Eleven Miles to Llandewey; Windsor Forrest to Mahogany Vale; and Windsor Forrest to Arntully. So too is the main road from Woodford to Norbrook, in St. Andrew.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services, Stephen Shaw, says despite the NWA’s effort to have affected roadways reopened, some roads still remain blocked. He advises that the roadways from Trinityville to Mount Vernon; Yallahs to Petersfield; and Whitehall to Hillside, in St. Thomas are impassable. The main road from Bath to Barrett Gap is also impassable due to a massive landslide and severe scouring. The road from Trinity to Cedar Valley, which was blocked yesterday and re-opened earlier today, is again impassable due to the widening of a breakaway which had occurred in the community of New Monkland.  The main road from Papine to Redlight District, in St. Andrew is also impassable at Irish Town. The Kintyre Ford which was made passable last week has again been washed out and is now impassable.

In Clarendon, the main road from Freetown to Four Paths  and sections of the Portland Cottage main road are still inundated. Operators of small vehicles are being advised not to use these roadways. Additionally, flooding has been reported in the communities of Mitchell Town and Rocky Point.
