The National Works Agency is making steady progress in reopening several roadways in the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland that were earlier today rendered impassable. The roadways were blocked by flood waters, fallen trees and landslides.

Among the blocked roads was that from Windsor to Orange Bay in Portland. The alternative route from Spring Garden through Chepstowe and School House Corner was also blocked.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the Chepstowe road which was blocked in three places by landslides has been reopened to single lane access.  He says the roadway from Buff Bay to White Hall remains impassable in the community of Belverdere, however a team is now working to have it reopened.

Mr. Shaw says several corridors in St. Mary which earlier today were impassable have also been reopened. These include the roads from Annotto Bay to Dover, which was flooded, the Junction main road and the stretch from Georgia to Agualtavale.

He says at least three road sections in the parish remain blocked, but should be reopened to at least single lane access by nightfall. These are the roads from Camberwell toFort George, Fort George to Cumsee and Rio Nuevo to Lambkin Hill. Mr. Shaw says users of the Lambkin Hill roadway should exercise caution, especially in the area referred to as “Brukwey,” as the road has dropped.

In the meantime, the Fern Gully main road in St. Ann has been reopened. Motorists using the corridor are being warned to be extremely careful, especially in the community of Harrison Town, where the roadway has been reduced to single lane.
