NWA to repair Gratings, replace missing Manhole covers across St. Catherine

The National Works Agency (NWA) is undertaking repairs to damaged gratings and replacing missing manhole covers at seven (7) locations across St. Catherine.

Damaged gratings are being repaired and manhole covers replaced in Spanish Town, Linstead, Old Harbour, Ewarton, Naggo Head, Cumberland and Hellshire. In Spanish Town, gratings along Burke Road and Wellington Street that have been in a state of disrepair for some time are slated for repairs. The NWA will also be carrying out similar repairs along Fletcher’s Avenue in Linstead and in the vicinity of the Jamaica Urban Transportation Company (JUTC) along the Municipal Boulevard.

The grating repairs and manhole cover replacement programme forms part of a fifty (50) million dollar effort being embarked on by the NWA islandwide. The programme which was announced late last year by Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller has several components which form the scope of works.

These include demolition of share wall and removal of damaged grating, construction of temporary roadway, drain cleaning, reinforced concrete repair, fabrication and installation of gratings and manhole covers.

The St. Catherine projects are expected to be completed in sixty (60) days by the end of February 2014 and are expected to cost $7.3 million.
