The National Works Agency is spending just under $107 million to carry out repairs at three breakaways in Halls Delight district, St. Andrew. The breakaways had rendered the roadway impassable following the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav in August of last year. The NWA however reopened the corridor to to single lane usage, as part of the post tropical storm activities.

Work on the three breakaways commenced in June and are expected to be completed within ten (10) months.

The Halls Delight area is highly susceptible to land slippages; hence the NWA has carried out extensive due diligence as to how to execute the projects. As part of the strategy, the NWA is using geo-textile fabric in the construction of the walls.

Geo-textile fabric is being used to prevent clay from entering the excavated area and forms a free draining blanket that will help to stabilize the shallow soils and reduce the possibility of erosion.
