Effective Wednesday October 21, 2009, the Troy Bridge in Troy Trelawny will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic. This closure will be for a period of four days.

The N.W.A says the bridge is being closed to facilitate its strengthening in preparation for the construction of a new bridge in the area. The old bridge is being replaced; however, it needs to be strengthened to accommodate heavy duty vehicles associated with the planned construction activities. As a result of the work on the bridge, no vehicular access will be allowed until Sunday October 25, 2009. Pedestrians will however be given access to the bridge.

Operators of small vehicles travelling from the direction of Colleyville towards Troy may travel via Highgate Hall, Wire Fence and Thompson Town. The reverse obtains for small vehicles travelling from the direction of Troy towards Colleyville. Operators of large vehicles are being advised not to travel through Thompson Town, but instead to use the route through Albert Town.

The Troy Bridge is being replaced through a $60 million contract with a new two lane structure equipped with sidewalks and guardrails, among other safety features. The new bridge will be constructed adjacent to the current structure.

Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of flag persons.
