The National Works Agency is undertaking a multi million dollar drain cleaning programme in the western parishes of St. James, Hanover, Westmoreland and Trelawny in preparation for what has been forecasted to be a very active Hurricane season.

According to the NWA, approximately twenty two point seven ($22.7) million dollars is being spent to clean several critical drains across these western parishes. This is being done to ensure that the road network is able to withstand the flood rains which are normally associated with this time of year.

Among the drains that have been targeted for attention are the North and South gullies in St. James; the Venture Gutter in Hanover; the Granville Gully in Trelawny and drains along the Little London main road in Westmoreland.

These projects form part of the NWA’s Two Hundred and Eighty ($280) million dollar Flood Damage Mitigation Programme for the island.
