The National Works Agency (NWA) is undertaking a multi million dollar drain cleaning programme in the western parishes of St. James, Hanover, Westmoreland and Trelawny.
According to the NWA, approximately five point five ($5.5) million dollars is being spent to clean several critical drains across these western parishes. This exercise is being undertaking in order to ensure that the drains are able to withstand the flood rains which are normally a feature of this time of year.
Among the drains that are being targeted for attention are the Railway drains in St. James; drains along the Riley main road in Hanover; the Salt Marsh drain in Trelawny and drains along the Little London main road in Westmoreland.
These projects form part of the NWA’s Flood Damage Mitigation Programme for the island.
