The National Works Agency (NWA) is now undertaking the cleaning of several critical drains in Montego Bay, St. James as part of its ongoing efforts to mitigate the incidence of flooding in the Second City.

This latest effort is valued at approximately one million dollars and involves the cleaning of the North and South Gullies as well as the Abattoir drains in Montego Bay.

According to the NWA this drain cleaning effort is being executed by one of the Agency’s Force Account Teams. This phase of the project is expected to be completed before the end of March 2010.

In the meantime the NWA is appealing to residents to take a more active role in ensuring that their waste is disposed of properly. Improper waste disposal compromises the drainage system making affected areas more prone to flooding.
