Gully Cleaning

The National Works Agency (NWA) has completed the cleaning of over 120 critical drains located in flood prone areas across the island. This exercise, completed four weeks after the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav, involved the removal of silt, debris, garbage, rubble and trees from these drains.

Mr. Shaw says the drain cleaning embarked on is one phase of a programme developed by the NWA to protect the main road network through effective flood control methods. He says critical drains cleaned include the Boucher and Cut Throat Gullies in Kingston and St.Andrew. Drains have also been cleaned in the communities of New Haven and Riverton City.
