The National Works Agency (NWA) is embarking on major road and drainage improvement works along sections of the main road from Adelphi to Kent in St. James.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts says 10,000 square meters (m2) of roadway will be targeted for attention under this project, which is valued at five million dollars. She says that the project involves drainage improvement, the bushing of verges, the patching of 1,000 square metres (m2) of the roadway using Asphaltic Concrete and the rehabilitation of 9,000 square metres (m2) of the corridor, using Double Surface Dressing.

Ms. Ricketts says the works are slated to be completed within the next six weeks and forms part of the NWA’s thrust to improve the condition of the island’s main road network and flood control system. The work is being undertaken by one of the NWA’s Force Account Teams.

In the meantime, the NWA is in the final stages of completing a $3.4 million bushing and drain cleaning project along 100 kilometres of roadways in St. James. Among the corridors that have been targeted are the Reading to Anchovy main road, the roadway from Marchmont to Washfoot Gully and the stretch from Fairfield to Point.
